Auditor Galloway Challenges Governor Mike Parson to Four Debates This Fall

August 5, 2020

Columbia, Mo. — Today, State Auditor Nicole Galloway challenged Governor Mike Parson to four debates to discuss the urgent challenges — from health care to education to the state’s economic recovery — facing Missouri amidst a deadly pandemic.

Auditor Galloway today announced she will join the Missouri Press Association’s virtual candidate forum on September 25. In addition to the Missouri Press Association, Auditor Galloway is challenging Governor Parson to three, socially distanced, in-person televised debates that will take place across the state this fall and be hosted by a diverse group of TV, print, and radio outlets.

“For too long, Governor Parson has been listening to lobbyists and insiders in Jefferson City — and ignoring the needs of Missouri’s working families. That’s why I’m challenging the Governor to four debates this fall so working families can hear directly from the candidates about what we will do to address the urgent challenges facing our state,” said State Auditor Nicole Galloway.

Auditor Galloway will participate in debates that meet the following criteria:

  • Each in-person debate should be broadcast statewide on television. No matter where you live, every Missourian deserves to be able to tune into the debates and hear directly from Auditor Galloway and Governor Parson about their visions for the state.

  • Missouri’s diversity is one of the state’s greatest strengths and the debates should take place in communities across the state. The three debates should be held: in the Kansas City region, in the St. Louis region, and another outside of the two major metropolitan regions.

  • This is a critical time to support local media. Each debate should include a print outlet who is a member of Missouri Capitol News Association, a radio partner, and a TV partner. Outlets that serve and represent Missouri’s Black community, like The St. Louis American, and Hispanic community should also be included as partners.
